Don’t Discount The Website

Yay! You did it- You’ve got a website. Now what? That’s the end, right? Your website is built and there is nothing else that needs to be done. Wrong.

It’s really easy to think that- what else needs to be done on your website. That is a really simple mistake people tend to make. Continued website management is just as important as building the website. But why? Today, we’re going to explore the reasons why you shouldn’t just make a website and park it.

1. Keepin’ it Fresh

How many times have you gone to a site and felt underwhelmed because it looked like no one had touched it since 1999? When you are staying active on your website, you are constantly seeing ways to improve it. Surely you’ve seen something on someone else’s website and thought that would look really cool on your own! That doesn’t mean rush off and redesign your website with every chance you get. That’s a waste of your time and resources and will confuse your visitors. Rather, keep website trends in mind and make little changes as you go.

2. Improves Site Ranking

Without getting into how Google, Bing, or any other search engine does things, making regular updates to your site makes them look more favorably on you. Regular can be once a week, month, quarter, whatever. When you make these updates, search engines are seeing that and in a way, rewarding it by putting you higher in the search results relating to your business. This is a small piece of search engine optimization, or SEO. Now that doesn’t mean your going to be the number one option just because you made a change- remember, there are several factors that search engines use to curate their results. So what kind of update are we talking about? Anything will work, even something as simple as changing some punctuation. Make periodic reviews and then changes from there.

3. Keeps Your Audience Informed

Your website is your “owned” media. You can put whatever you want on it, it’s yours. While the possibilities are endless, this allows you the perfect opportunity to utilize your site to make announcements, host sales, or whatever else you can think of (like creating resources like this). Keeping things updated on your website tells your visitors “I’m open for business!” and informs them of the changes going on in your business. Plus, keeping all this updated can reduce the number of calls you might receive for simple question, freeing up your time to focus on your work.

So why does all this matter? For one, it’s your potential customers visiting your site. You want them to be as well informed as possible. Two, just because your website has low traffic now, doesn’t mean it always will. Whether you just spent hours designing the perfect site or paid to have it done, you want to maximize your site to its fullest potential. Having a website is not a be-all-end-all solution. Keeping it updated and making regular changes will help you stand out from your competitors. If you need assistance managing your site, contact 4/4 Solutions and let’s see what can be done!
